About Dr Naim:

Dr. Mark Naim

I qualified in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) in 1974, with a Birmingham (UK) degree, as the then medical faculty was a college of that University. At first wanting to have a career in surgery, I worked and studied in Cape Town, London and Sydney, in several fields of surgery, including ENT, plastic, gynaecological and neurosurgery, as well as general surgery.

However, in 1985, I decided to enter the specialty of general practice, or primary health care. Over the subsequent years, I attained the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of General Practitioners, and have had various other interests as well over the years. I was an examiner for the College, an accredited Pathology Provider, a committee member of the Eastern Suburbs Medical Society, and taught communication skills to medical students at the University of New South Wales.

Underlying my whole approach to healing, however, has been the desire to look at a person as a whole, and ask the question: “How come this person has this particular illness?” To look beyond the physical for a source of the disease, especially where allopathic (Western) medicine admits it does not know the source or cause of a particular illness. Where the reductionist view has no answer.

This approach took me into Balint groups – where I started this journey of self-discovery, as a person and healer. I practiced psychotherapy for a number of years, but found that limited as well – people would still meet blocks through which they couldn't go, or recall to talk about. I also trained as a Life Coach, and found this to be effective in helping people when the focus was “outside” the person, but not so good when it came to more personal issues.

In 1999 I came upon Journey therapy, of which there is more information on this site. This has proven itself to have answers I was looking for – the ability to explore the character and personality and spirit of a person, to see if the source of a problem lies in areas other than physical.

This has now become part of an integral approach to healing -- to use whatever means appropriate to bring about total good health in any individual. This is not the same in my view as “Alternative” medicine or “Integrative” medicine, whose practitioners are open to using alternative or complimentary healing methods, but ultimately are still focussed around physical fixes for physical problems.

To sum up, I find myself passionate about the integration of mind, body, personality, spirit and soul in the care of any individual. My ultimate purpose is to bring people back to their essence, to who they truly are, for that is where real healing takes place.

The purpose of this site then is to bring this to a wider audience, to be part of that community that feels the same way, to enable communication and feedback, for the betterment of all concerned.
